Cabling & Bracing Trees

Many ornamental trees, purchased in Alaska, have poor branch structure. These poor designed trees have multiple stems or leadors. This v-crotch is a weak joint and over time, the bark doesn't fuse and strengthen. Natural growth of annual rings from the two separate stems never become one. Through wind, rain, ice and branch growth, a weak joint is made. Cabling and bracing can prolong the life of these Mt. Ash, Chokecherries, Mayday and Birch.
Sometimes the best solution is to buy healthy nursery stock with on dominant stem with great branch structure - preferably at 90 degrees to the trunk as possible.
